The region and the vineyards:

Bircat HaAretz Association’s dedicated and professional vintners have chosen excellent land plots to grow quality grapes in the agricultural villages of Tirosh and Gefen in the Judean Hills, thereby renewing a traditional vocation from Biblical times.
Our house winemaker cultivates the encounter between man and earth, between the cold at night and the sun during the day. A graduate of the Sorek Winery wine school, he fell in love with producing authentic wines that faithfully represent their unique source and climate. The Carma Winery’s aim was to extract superb wines from the exclusive and quality vineyards planted in the fields of the Tirosh and Gefen agricultural villages. Bircat HaAretz Association, an exclusive club for the observance of agricultural commandments in Israel for Jews from the diaspora, planted these vineyards in soil with extraordinary growing conditions (terroir), which are capable of producing winning wines with the highest quality flavors and aromas.
The Winery’s vintners and winemakers are committed to producing top quality wines. Carma Winery grows the exact same vineyards, year after year, creating an intimate familiarity with the vineyards and the cultivation of the wine grape species. This intimate care continues with the vintage, fermentation, aging and bottling process, which is all done with the latest technology and equipment.
The end of the process produces outstanding boutique wines, wines that we love to drink.

The inspiration behind the winery:

Carma Winery is a boutique winery located in the agricultural village of Tirosh near the Lachish region which was in the inheritance of Judah. It is in the bosom of nature, not far from Israel’s center. This region is characterized by extreme fluctuations of heat during the day and cold at night that provide vineyards with the ultimate climate for success grape-growing.
The winery was founded in 2012 by members of Bircat HaAretz association who identified the Judah region’s potential for raising and producing high quality wine grapes. The Judah region has a rich history of wine production going back 3000 years. After a careful evaluation of this special region, the members of the association decided to take up the the Biblical period tradition of the tribe of Judah to become vintners and farmers.
After Israel’s establishment, the village was given the name Tirosh (“wine”) due to the region being a center for growing wine grapes going back to antiquity.
The Carma winery is defined as a boutique estate winery, which enables us to maintain the highest standards of quality from the stage of growing grapes, thinning the clusters and selecting from which crops to produce high precision quality wines.
The Carma Winery emphasizes every detail in the wine making process, including selecting the type of soil suitable for growing the various varieties, identifying the effects of the weather on grape growing, selecting and thinning the full clusters, and creating the finest wine mixtures. We adhere to the highest standards.

The founders:

The Carma Winery is a joint venture of the Bircat HaAretz Association and a group of philanthropists from around the world who have set up a boutique winery that produces fine wine from the Bircat HaAretz vineyard grapes, while propagating the values that underpin the Association: love of the land of Israel, observing the Jewish agricultural laws, connecting between Jews around the world and the land of Israel, and recognizing the exquisite quality of Land of Israel grapes and the wine that they produce. At the same time, all the Winery’s income is devoted to maintaining Torah study in the Land of Israel and to supporting holy institutions.

David & Denise Harari Wine, Eretz Israel and Torah have always had a very close relationship.  When we heard about this project involving all three, we knew it was a natural decision to be part of it.
Carma is not only producing a world class wine following all the chalachot of the land, but also contributes with Yeshivat Panama to continue producing world class Talmidei Chachamim.

Why Carma Winery? It was a natural extension of the work we do for Bircat Haaretz as we“ can work the land and convert the grapes used for one set of Mitzvot and use it to make our wine for another set of Mitzvot. Soon we will be trying to build out our brand and begin to sell ”.the brands to various wine stores and istributors in the U.S

The Carma Winery and the Bircat HaAretz Association

The grape vineyards from which the Carma Winery wine is produced are owned by the Bircat HaAretz association, which is an exclusive club for diaspora Jews who seek to fulfill the agricultural commandments applicable to the Land of Israel.

Grapes that produce wine are among the Seven Species for which the Land of Israel is celebrated. Carma’s vineyards are carefully managed and both Jewish legal and agronomic aspects are carefully taken into consideration.

Carma Winery’s wine is Bircat HaAretz’s main quality product.

Bircat HaAretz purchased a 250 sq. m. plot and hired farmers and agronomists to grow all Seven Species on behalf of Diaspora Jews so they can observe all the agricultural commandments applicable in the Land of Israel. Bircat HaAretz members also receive the agricultural produce that their land produced, such as matzahs on Passover from wheat harvested in their fields, pomegranates for Rosh Hashanah, olive oil for lighting Chanukah candles, Carma wine from vineyards grown in their field, etc.
